Breakdown of the Collections

These materials consist of records from the International Secretariat of FESTAC, Colloquium Papers and the proceedings of the International Festival Committee (IFC) meetings and other rare materials.

This consists of publications that were retrieved from both the International and National Book Exhibition pavilions of FESTAC ’77. It includes Books on Black and African Arts and Civilization.

The materials in the library are constantly augmented in accordance with the objectives of the Institution. Books on the African Culture and the Arts donated by the Government, individuals and UNESCO can also be found in this unit.

The Audio-Visual materials are FESTAC audio tapes, VCDs, DVDs, video-cassettes, gramophone records, FESTAC promotional films, films on Nigerian Cultural festivals, the Black Heritage and Light on a Dark Continent, various aspects of the Nigerian, South African, Namibian, West Indian social activities and other special collections.

This department houses most of the Artworks and Artifacts displayed by participating countries during FESTAC ’77. Relics, fossils, and some archaeological evidence that suggest Africa as the Cradle of Man are also among the major collections exhibited in the Museum. Aboriginal and Nigerian Arts and Crafts are also available in the collections, including a permanent exhibition on Egypt’s civilization.
